Unionville Tennis Club was unofficially started by a handful of residents living nearby the two asphalt tennis courts at Toogood Park located near the intersection of Fred Varley Drive and Sciberras Road around 1971. The leaders of the group were Bill Fowler, Ted Easton and John Forbes. In 1975, the Town of Markham built three hard courts at the present location in Carlton Park. Unionville Tennis Club was officially established! The first president in this new facility was Bob Wilder who with a team of volunteers built a small wooden clubhouse. In 1981 the Town added 3 more hard surface tennis courts and in 1987 the clubhouse was doubled in size. Finally in 1993, the water main and sewage system were connected and UTC received kitchen and washroom facilities! In 1994 a further 3 tennis courts were added (to bring the total to 9), the surrounding area was landscaped and a new adjacent parking lot was created. The conversion of three hard courts to the clay surface was completed in 2001.
