Junior Tennis Rocks Tournament 2018

Well done to those who played at the Tournament this year. A cool morning turned into a sunny, warm day with over 60 teams and 300 kids participating. Unionville fielded 4 teams this year, 2 in the open division and 2 in the recreation division.

Team 1 was amazingly led by Andrei, James and Henry, who each did an excellent job playing on the court, but equally amazing off the court playing mini tennis with the younger UTC juniors and cheering on other UTC teams. Jasper and Jonathan rounded out the Team 1 roster and played inspired tennis, with the team winning a gold medal.

Thanks to Bev, the captain for Team 2 who played above their heads each match. Twins Greg and Trent played boys 2-3 years older than them each match and held their own. George, Brandon and Jaylin smoked their competition and the team won a bronze medal.

Thank you to Colette who led Team 3. Congrats to Richard, Matheen, and Haadi who each played in their first Tennis Rocks Tournament. Brothers Josh and Quinn were one of our 4 pairs of brothers playing on the day for UTC, and each had a solid tournament with their youngest brother on hand watching, but will likely be joining us on court in the years to come.

Team 4 was the only team that played the afternoon slot and featured 2 pairs of brothers, the Snelgroves and the Iyers. Joining them were Cameron and Katherine who both hit great shots all afternoon. Of note, at 7 years old, feisty Jishnu Iyer was our youngest competitor of the day, playing against others 6 years older! Special thank you to Tim for being the captain of this team who won a gold in the boy’s rec division.
